Chris Linder specializes in photographing scientific fieldwork, wildlife, and landscapes in extreme environments. A former naval officer and oceanographic researcher, Linder has photographed 53 scientific expeditions and has spent more than 1,100 days exploring the polar regions. His goals are to educate and inspire the public about conservation and environmental science and to communicate the urgent need to protect our planet’s wild places and species. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Nature’s Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards and BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, and he is the recipient of a National Science Foundation Antarctic Artists and Writers grant. He has published two books of photography about polar science: Science on Ice and The Big Thaw. He is a Senior Fellow in the International League of Conservation Photographers and a Fellow National in the Explorer’s Club.
