Eyes of the Okavango | Beverly Joubert
Beverly Joubert is a world famous, award-winning filmmaker, photographer, conservationist and a National Geographic Explorer-at-Large. Together with her husband Dereck she co-founded Great Plains Conservation and Great Plains Foundation. They presently manage over 1.5 million acres of wild lands in Africa, and that holds an estimated 2-3% of Africa’s elephants, lions, giraffes and other wildlife. Beverly and Dereck also co-founded the Big Cats Initiative with National Geographic, as an emergency initiative to slow the rapid decline of big cats around the world, with over 157 Grants in 29 Countries. This program has now transitioned to the Great Plains Big Cats Initiative, under the Jouberts’ leadership and Great Plains Foundation management.
They have co-produced over 40 films for National Geographic, receiving eight Emmys, a Peabody, Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival awards, a Wildscreen Panda & Outstanding Achievement Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award, The World Ecology Awards, and the Presidential Order of Meritorious Service by the former President of Botswana.
